County Medicare trends and variations in Washington

Presented below is a series of graphs displaying trends for 2007-18 in each county in Washington and the state in measures associated with Medicare fee-for-service beneficiaries. The graphs are divided into 3 sections:

  • Section I: Medicare enrollment and beneficiary demographics (total Medicare beneficiaries)
  • Section II: Prevalence rates of select health conditions among the Medicare beneficiaries (fee-for-service beneficiaries with both Part A and Part B)
  • Section III: Measures of utilization and cost for select health services received by the Medicare beneficiaries (fee-for-service beneficiaries with both Part A and Part B)

The data source for Sections I and III is the Medicare Geographic Variation Public Use File (February 2021), available from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The data source for Section II is the Medicare Chronic Conditions public use file (January 2021), also available from CMS.
