Distinguishing Characteristics
Typical Work
Stands engine room watch as operating engineer of propulsion or auxiliary machinery;
Directs engineering department personnel as assigned;
Instructs department's in-service program in engineering;
Provides direction to personnel doing routine maintenance and assists in emergency repair of propulsion or auxiliary machinery and electrical systems;
Maintains operating and maintenance logs and records;
Serves as principal assistant to Chief Marine Engineer for fueling operations;
Performs related duties as required.
