PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSISTANT 1
Class Series Concept
Provide physical therapy treatment to assigned patients.
Definition
Perform physical therapy treatments and assist the physical therapist with tests and measurements.
Distinguishing Characteristics
First-level class of the series. Under general supervision, assist with physical therapy treatments.
Typical Work
Prepares patient and environment for therapy; implements treatment as directed by the physical therapist;
Reports changes in patients' status to therapist;
Participates in rounds for assigned patients;
Schedules assigned patients and departmental duties;
Assists the therapist in performing patient evaluations and tests;
Writes progress notes; assists in completing informational forms;
Conducts hydrotherapy treatments of patients;
Maintains a clean, safe working environment;
Maintains therapeutic equipment;
Completes charge documents for patient services;
May perform clerical duties;
Performs related duties as required.

Desirable Qualifications
An Associate of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program that includes patient treatment affiliation. Physical ability to move patients and equipment.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
