Definition
Provide advanced respiratory therapy to patients.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Under general supervision, perform advanced respiratory care procedures in intensive care units, general care areas, clinics and emergency services.
Typical Work
Provide advanced respiratory care as delineated in the department procedure manuals and as ordered by the physician;
Consult with physicians and nurses regarding the effectiveness of the respiratory care provided to the patients;
Provide instruction in respiratory care procedures and equipment to patients, families and staff;
Document clinical activities in patient charts;
May be responsible for instruction of respiratory care students; assist with the orientation of new staff and the continuing education of current staff;
May perform the work of a Respiratory Care Associate;
Perform related duties as required.

Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the State of Washington.
