Definition

In the Work Management Center of the Department of General Administration, plans, coordinates, estimates and schedules maintenance and construction projects of $1,000.00 or less. 

Typical Work

Monitors and coordinates projects (especially multi-trade or organizational unit) to ensure that the organization's best interests are being accomplished, and if indicated, facilitates corrections/changes; this may include projects conducted through public works contracts;  

Monitors project progress with respect to compliance with applicable codes and regulations, completion of "punchlisted" project items, and general quality control; 

Provides project status information to management; 

Estimates resources required for alteration work and special maintenance projects; schedules projects with respect to job priority, material availability, inter-trades coordination and customer requirements;  

Assists in obtaining required permits and licenses for projects; 

Performs other duties as requested. 

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:  experience in selected building trades (prefer having held journey-level status in electrical, mechanical/plumbing/HVAC, carpentry or other fields); or other trades.   

Ability to:  estimate work hours and material needed for minor building alterations or modifications up to $1,000; read blueprints and make material and work hour estimates based on drawings, designs or contract documents; communicate technical information both orally and in writing with both technical/trades and nontechnical personnel; relate well with both customers and organization personnel.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification.  It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Desirable Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in building construction, industrial engineering or related field; and one year of experience planning, scheduling or coordinating facility maintenance and construction projects.   

Additional experience in planning, scheduling or coordinating facility maintenance and construction projects may be substituted, year for year, for education. 

OR 

Two years' experience as a Facility Services Technician 1 and/or 2.
