Operates a floating or lift span bridge to allow the passing of water traffic.

Opens and closes floating or lift span bridges by operating the control panel;

Maintains records of bridge activities such as daily diary, log showing opening and closing of bridge, records of greasing and oiling and other required records;

Performs minor bridge maintenance tasks such as greasing and oiling of mechanical components;

Maintains an anemometer record when required;

Inspects bridge for ice and damage and makes minor repairs or reports damage to the supervisor;

In cases of accidents, renders assistance and controls traffic until arrival of law enforcement agencies;

Keeps control house and adjacent areas clean;

Maintains good safety and public relation practices;

Performs other work as required.

A valid driver's license may be required for some positions.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.
