Installs, maintains, repairs and tests electrical and electronic systems used in security and alarm surveillance and instructs personnel in the proper operation and minor maintenance of this equipment.

Installs and maintains internal security systems to include electronic surveillance and ensures that such systems remain operational and effective; 

Conducts frequent inspections and tests to ensure that the security systems are functional and adequate; 

Recommends the selection, purchase, installation, and maintenance of security devices; 

Instructs Electricians or Electrician Supervisors in the maintenance of security devices; 

Instructs employees in use and minor repairs of surveillance systems; 

Services and repairs communication radio equipment; makes frequency checks to ensure the stations are on frequency and within modulation limits; 

Consults with contractors on installation and design of surveillance and perimeter systems; 

Tests and evaluates new electronic equipment and makes site inspections; 

Supervises purchase of all parts and materials, maintenance of adequate stocks of maintenance parts and supplies, and supervises inventory of equipment, parts, and supplies; 

Maintain or repairs  related security system computer to include server, switches, and/or local area network (LAN) maintenance; 

Performs other work as required.

Knowledge of: electronic circuit module applications; operating principles of electrical and electronic surveillance devices including transmitting and receiving equipment, radio and video; methods, tools, materials, meters, and test instruments used in installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of electronic equipment; Federal Communications Commission's Rules; availability of new commercial equipment. 

Ability to: read and understand electrical drawings, schematics, and sketches using electrical and electronic symbols; establish and maintain effective work methods and schedules; keep records; work independently in improvising necessary system components; train others.

For certain positions a valid general radiotelephone operator's license issued by the Federal Communications Commission may be required.

Five years of experience installing, maintaining or repairing electrical and/or electronic equipment to include at least one year of experience repairing and testing security and alarm surveillance equipment. 

Full‑time training in electrical engineering or electronics may be substituted, year for year, for a maximum of two years of the required experience, except for the one year of experience repairing and testing security and alarm surveillance equipment. 

NOTE: Must be willing to travel extensively.
