LOTTERY TELEMARKETING REPRESENTATIVE 1
Definition
These positions perform complex sales strategies in order to obtain sales goals of Lottery Instant Ticket products in an assigned territory. Provides information and assistance to retailers on promotional programs, sales campaigns, and incentive programs, and encourages enthusiastic response to campaigns by ticket retailers.
Distinguishing Characteristics
These positions are distinguished from Lottery District Sales Representatives by the fact that they are work with retailers and the public by telephone.
Typical Work
Analyzes current ticket inventory levels, pack activation, and sales averages for assigned retailers to make recommendations for orders.
Markets the State Lottery product line (ticket books, promotion materials, and other material depending on game variations) to licensed retail outlets by use of telephone;
Maintains regular contact with licensed outlets to solicit ticket orders and to forecast and fill supply needs;
Identifies and takes corrective action on inventory problems such as retailers not using pack management to receive tickets, reporting stolen tickets, or the mis-delivery of tickets;
Advises retail outlets of promotional programs, sales campaigns, sales quotas, game information, and incentives; encourages enthusiasm and support for Lottery sales activities and persuades retailers to increase ticket stocks and sales as the need indicates;
Reports to Lottery Telemarketing Representative 2 or to regional sales managers regarding effectiveness of field sales staff; makes recommendations regarding improvement of customer relations;
Keeps marketing representatives aware of telephone contacts and sales to minimize call-backs by District Sales Representatives and thereby increase route coverage and effectiveness;
Maintains records of telephone calls made, orders taken, tickets sold, types of dispensers, and delivery changes;
Performs related work assigned or required.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: inventory procedures; basic accounting techniques; telephone sales procedures; laws, rules, policies and procedures governing Lottery operations; principles and practices of product marketing and retail sales; basic data processing.
Ability to: understand written and oral instructions; speak persuasively and effectively over the telephone.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.
Desirable Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, marketing or closely allied field
AND
one year of sales experience.
Additional sales experience or years of employment with a lottery may be substituted, year for year, for education.
NOTE: Sales is the direct solicitation of potential customers and the convincing of them to purchase the product or service. (Consumer products, business products, equipment, or services are examples.)
Experience as a sales clerk or cashier in a department or other store, restaurant, or other enterprise is not considered as qualifying for any of the Lottery classes.
