Definition
Positions allocated to this level perform routine mail services such as delivering, collecting and sorting United States or other vendor mail, parcel post packages, campus mail, and providing routine customer information. When handling mail, incumbents occasionally lift up to 70 pounds and when delivering and collecting mail, incumbents operate motorized vehicles such as passenger cars, station wagons, pickup trucks, vans, or light panel delivery trucks.

Operate, adjust, and maintain multiple format labeling and inserter production mailing equipment.
Typical Work
Delivers, collects and sorts mail and packages including bulk, insured, registered, certified, and regular mail;
Uses hand trucks, dollies, and mail carts in the transport of materials;
Operates postage meters, addressing, folding and other mailing machines occasionally;
Operate office equipment such as computers, copier machines, telephone, calculators and data entry equipment.
Operate, adjust, and maintain multiple format labeling mailing machines;
Label mailings using high speed labeling machines;
Operate, adjust, and maintain all types of inserting equipment (single, two, or multiple station inserters);
Complete and file necessary forms with the U.S. Postal Service.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: Mail handling, sorting and delivery techniques; operation of delivery van, station wagon and passenger vehicles; State motor vehicle laws; rules pertaining to State vehicles and related equipment; emergency servicing and/or repair of vehicles.
Ability to: Physically handle, sort and deliver mail, parcels and packages which may involve lifting and bundling; operate and perform emergency service to vehicles used in this employment; use judgment in safeguarding the transport and delivery of valuables; maintain suitable appearance consistent with the duties of this employment; maintain courteous and effective relationship with mail service users and the general public.

Desirable Qualifications
Positions typically require high school graduation or equivalent and possession of a valid unrestricted motor vehicle operator’s license.
