Definition
Lead work of technicians and participate in the operation and maintenance of a radio and/or television facility or system.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Positions in this class are responsible for leading and coordinating the activities of broadcast technicians and supportive personnel; and for performing specialized maintenance, repair, and construction work on highly complex radio and television facilities and/or broadcast/distribution systems.
Typical Work
Acts as a working lead and installs, maintains, and operates studios, control rooms and related television/radio systems and equipment;
Directs and operates equipment for remote control broadcasts and operates recording equipment;
Conducts performance tests on television and radio broadcast stations, as set forth in FCC Rules and Regulations;
Trains and supervises student operators and technicians;
Provides technical assistance to production staff relating to equipment usage and limitations;
Assists in the development of plans to modify and expend existing radio/television facilities;
Performs related duties as required.

Desirable Qualifications
Four years of full-time experience/training in radio or television broadcast technician work. First class Federal Communications Commission radio-telephone operator license may be required.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
