Definition
Using computerized and/or manual systems, process requests and schedule media material and equipment requests.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Under direct supervision, positions at the "1" level schedule and process client orders for in-stock media equipment and materials.
Under general supervision, positions at the "2" level schedule, maintain and control the circulation of media material and equipment; make acquisition recommendations; process purchase orders for new and rental media materials; research materials and coordinate requests with vendors and other sources.
Typical Work
Processes requests for films, video tapes CD-ROM, laser disks and other media materials and equipment for local usage and off campus rental; coordinates requests for projection services; follows-up on overdue requests;
Inspects media materials and racks for correct shelving and proper care of collections; searches for lost items; plans space arrangements in racks; initiates requests for repairs;
Advises faculty and staff of available films, tapes and other media materials;
Inspects media materials for defects and/or damage; operates film rewinding, inspection, and splicing equipment;
Conducts inventory and maintains computerized and/or manual inventory records, reports and purchase orders;
Assists faculty, students and staff in the operation of media equipment;
May schedule and maintain a preview program for films and videos;
May deliver, set up and operate media equipment such as audio and video playback systems, VCRs, overhead projectors, and film and slide projectors;
May perform minor repair to films and video tapes including insertion of replacement footage;
May perform routine cataloging of audio visual materials;
May direct the work of others;
Performs related duties as required.

Desirable Qualifications
High school graduation
AND
One year of experience as a Media Assistant 1
OR
Equivalent education/experience.
