Positions independently provide technical support to a resource management program by performing technical land use, transaction, lease, development, and/or management duties.  Some positions manage public access across large geographic areas within the state for fish and wildlife-oriented public use by conducting or coordinating renovation, remodeling, repair or maintenance of access area buildings, facilities, and grounds.  Work is performed in a variety of trades that includes carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding, mechanics, and small engine repair.

Conducts inspections of access sites to ensure health and safety compliance; identifies, inspects, and corrects facility problems over multiple watersheds; 

Maintains good safety and public relations practices; has continuous contact with the public responding to a variety of fish and wildlife inquiries or complaints; provides department information and resolves access area complaints; advises enforcement personnel of potentially illegal or disruptive actions; 

Applies herbicides and pesticides requiring an applicator’s license to control and eradicate noxious weeds; 

Performs work from plans or sketches in the construction and repair of buildings and other structures, roadways, pathways, fences, marine docks, floats, piers, and related facilities on land under department jurisdiction; estimates materials and time need to complete a job; 

Operates, cleans, maintains, and stores construction tools and equipment; arranges for the purchase of repair or replacement parts, or for the rental or lease of privately owned equipment; 

Operates road equipment used in construction, snow removal, and similar maintenance activities; operates small bulldozer and other earth moving equipment in clearing and leveling land or making ditches; greases, oils, services, and makes minor repairs to equipment; keeps equipment in good working condition;  

Performs oxyacetylene, arc, and other types of welding and burning work; 

Repairs plumbing fixtures, cuts and threads pipe, bends pipe, replaces pump bushings and washers, tests valves and other plumbing equipment; 

May act as a project coordinator heading and training work crews in construction and maintenance projects and use of equipment; schedules, coordinates, and supervises the work of seasonal personnel when available; 

Prepares reports; schedules maintenance; schedules equipment, assists in developing projects including determining materials, equipment, and manpower needs; 

Plans for operations; determines costs, obtains bids, purchases supplies and materials, and monitors budgets; 

Reviews and interprets maps; 

Prepares geoduck sales including cooperative use of experts to determine plan, inventory and survey/setup of site boundaries, prescribing conditions and provisions of contracts and conducting sales; administers geoduck sale contracts including inspections to determine and obtain compliance with contract provisions; monitors progress and ensures correct billings and payments; 

Prescribes and directs operations and maintenance of special use sites; develops cooperative relations with adjacent landowners and users; 

Prepares agricultural land leases, aquatic property leases and similar use agreements or transaction agreements; 

Gathers technical information for land evaluation; prepares reports and makes preliminary recommendation of lease provisions and fees.  Initiates water registration actions; negotiates with lessees on a limited basis to ensure orderly development and compliance with contract provisions; conducts surveys locating property lines, site conditions, and boundaries; 

Administers and enforces surface-mined land reclamation regulations; 

May supervise or lead other staff.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position. 

Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.

Positions typically require two years of experience as a Natural Resource Technician 2, Forest Technician, Engineering Aide 1, Administrative Assistant 1 or higher class performing technical or paraprofessional duties relating to land use, transaction lease, or development or three years of experience as a general repairer or equivalent

OR 

A Bachelor’s degree with major study in business management, accounting, real estate, agriculture, aquatic land studies, police sciences or other business, law enforcement or natural resource studies

OR  

An Associate degree in natural resource, law enforcement, or business studies and two years of technical experience in land management. 

Note:  Some positions may require applicants to obtain a Pesticide or Herbicide license. 

Note:  An agency will designate the need for a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with specific endorsements.  Candidates selected for CDL positions will be tested for use of a controlled substance and alcohol misuse as required by the 1991 Federal Omnibus Transportation Testing Act.
