Definition
Leads workers performing various unskilled and semi-skilled manual work in the maintenance, repair, remodeling, and construction of buildings, facilities, utility and sewer systems, equipment, and grounds.
Typical Work
Plan and prepare work assignments for utility worker crew; lay out and assign work;
Read and interpret plans, blueprints, and sketches required for building sidewalks, streets, parking lots, installation of signs, posts, and catch basins;
Operate power tools and equipment, such as electric and gas engine driven compressors, large mowers, snow removal machines, pneumatic tamper, jackhammer and portable pumps;
Operate motorized equipment, such as automobiles, trucks, including dump trucks, forklifts, small tractors and front-end loaders, street cleaning equipments, trailers and trenchers;
Inspect completed projects to ensure satisfactory compliance with design and instruction;
Order supplies, equipment, and tools required for projects;
Maintain personnel records and maintenance project records;
May direct set up for athletic events and assure site is returned to original conditions;
Perform duties of Utility Worker 2;
Perform related duties as required.

Desirable Qualifications
Physical ability to do required work AND one year experience as a Utility Worker 2 OR equivalent education/experience.
