This is the journey level of the series.  Under general supervision, exercise specific project management responsibilities for minor plant operations problems and/or minor construction repair or improvement of facilities and/or utilities systems or specific segments of larger projects or systems. Perform complex engineering assignments; e.g., identifying and resolving engineering problems related to area drainage, overloaded electrical distribution systems or components, inadequate ventilation systems, designing lighting systems, and facilities remodeling. Assignments require working independently at the professional level and the application of a wide variety of engineering precedents, principles and practices.

Prepare complex designs and specifications for assigned projects; 

Conduct engineering surveys and prepare reports related to engineering pro­jects; 

Prepare cost estimates of capital improvement, budgets, and similar line accounting documents; 

Review and evaluate designs prepared by consulting engineers; 

Coordinate work of consulting engineers; 

Review and approve designs prepared by Assistant Facilities Engineers or equivalent; 

Review and recommend approval of a variety of engineering related documents, e.g., shop drawing and change orders; 

Perform the duties of an Assistant Facilities Engineer; 

May direct the work of other support staff; 

Perform related duties as required.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position. 

Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.

Positions typically require a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and two years of applicable experience. Some positions require registration as a Professional Engineer with the State of Washington.
