Definition
Perform semi-skilled carpentry work of graduated complexity in the institution's building, maintenance and alterations program.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Positions in this class are distinguished by assignment as an apprentice trainee for the carpenter journey class receiving on-the-job and academic training to achieve journey status.
Typical Work
Under the guidance of a journey worker, perform various carpentry maintenance and alteration duties;
Obtain, prepare and deliver materials to the job site and assist in assembly and installation;
Clean up and maintain shop areas, work sites and storage areas;
Complete on-the-job carpenter trades training program requirements;
Complete related academic training which will consist of designated trades school and/or correspondence courses as available and applicable to the carpenter journey class;
Perform related duties and functions as specified in approved apprentice training program.

Desirable Qualifications
High school graduation or equivalent, possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required, and meet qualification standards approved by Washington State Apprenticeship Council.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
