Definition
Performs controlled chemical testing to certify breathalyzer equipment accuracy, maintains and repairs breathalyzer equipment, and gives testimony in court.
Typical Work
Conducts controlled chemical tests to certify breathalyzer equipment accuracy;
Repairs and maintains breathalyzer equipment;
Testifies in court of law as expert witness in chemical testing;
Performs miscellaneous crime lab functions assisting criminalists;
Transports evidence to lab; packages and inventories lab evidence;
Performs other work as required.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: basic principles of chemistry, physics, biology, analytical instrumentation and testing.
Ability to: operate and conduct chemical testing on breathalyzer equipment; prepare clear, concise documentation; present expert court testimony.

Desirable Qualifications
A Bachelor of Science degree which includes a minimum of 20 semester hours or 30 quarter hours of chemistry.
