Definition

Positions at this level independently perform audits of large, diversified public commodity storage facilities, conditioners, and dealers and act as representatives of the State in the commodity warehouse industry.  

Typical Work

Audits various types of storage records, negotiable receipts, scale tickets, non-receipted grain accounts, and other records of deposit; participates in complex examinations such as ocean shipping grain terminals; 

Investigates whether persons involved in storing, shipping or handling agricultural commodities are properly licensed; 

Inspects commodities in storage by physical measurement to determine if warehouse has sufficient stocks to meet its obligation; measures and computes amounts and kinds of commodities in storage by quantity, type, and quality; determines whether commodities in storage balance with storage records; recommends necessary adjustments to bring commodities into balance with inventory; 

Checks storage facilities for sanitary conditions; instructs warehouse worker to repair facilities that do not meet minimum standards; requests warehouse worker to destroy commodities that have been contaminated; 

Prepares and submits reports and audit findings; 

Provides training to subordinate staff; 

May supervise lower level staff.

Desirable Qualifications

Positions typically require a Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, business administration, agricultural economics, or related field, and two years of relevant work experience.
