ADULT TRAINING SPECIALIST 2
Definition
Within the DevelopmentalDisabilities Administration, Residential Habilitation Center, positions writeand implement a variety of vocational, educational, behavioral, therapy, motor,social, or community living skill training programs and supports for peoplewith disabilities. The resident training normally occurs in a work or trainingarea, but may take place in other settings on or off campus.
These positions report to andare supervised by an Adult Training Supervisor or other professionalresponsible for therapy and training.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the journey level of the series. Positions at this level work under general supervision. Positions perform professional level duties to assist with the development of a variety of programs for an assigned caseload, and provides services that meet the needs of each individual.
Typical Work
Develops, writes and updates group and individual resident programs that may be reviewed by an Adult Training Supervisor or other appropriate professional staff; implements programs written by self, a supervisor or appropriate professional;
Instructs, trains, and supervises residents in developmental, educational, vocational, language, behavior, social, community survival and other skills to provide continuous individualized training and skill enhancement programs;
As a member of the interdisciplinary team, actively participates in habilitation and training meetings and other group meetings as may be required;
Directs and supervises residents being transported to, from, and during habilitation/training activities on or off the RHC campus;
Prepares and presents verbal and written reports from program data, evaluations, and records monthly;
Performs duties associated with set-up, clean-up, and general upkeep of classroom, training, vocational, and/or habilitation areas;
Performs personal care in the home and training environment as indicated by need;
Assists direct care staff in meeting resident needs;
Performs the duties of the lower levels in the series;
Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: techniques used in the care and treatment of the developmentally disabled.
Ability to: work as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team; assist with the development of training programs for residents including behavior supports; treat and care for residents; follow written and oral directions; maintain records and reports.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.
Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.
Desirable Qualifications
High school graduation (or GED) and successful completion of fifteen specific, job related college credit hours. (Each RHC will specify, in advance, which fifteen hours are required in that RHC.)
AND
One year as an Adult Training Specialist 1; or one year as a vocational trainer of persons with disabilities in a community employment program or sheltered workshop; or one year as a teacher's aide in a special education classroom; or two years' experience as an Attendant Counselor.
