Definition
Performs a variety of technical pharmaceutical tasks in a central or satellite pharmacy.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Under general supervision and control of a licensed pharmacist, independently performs a variety of technical pharmaceutical functions such as compounding medications, preparing prescriptions, preparing intravenous admixtures, and performing order entry of prescriptions into the pharmacy computer.
Typical Work
Compounds and prepares medications from physician orders for oral, intravenous, rectal, and topical administration;
Prepares prescriptions from physician orders;
Assists in training pharmacy assistants, interns, and students;
Performs documentation functions in designated areas of the pharmacy;
Assists in the preparation and documentation of the process improvement program;
Performs charging and/or billing functions;
Monitors and performs batch preparation of pharmaceuticals;
Performs order entry of medication orders into the pharmacy computer;
Performs the duties of Pharmacy Assistants;

Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.
