AUTOMOTIVE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR
Definition
Distinguishing Characteristics
Positions at this level directing a crew of inmates either are limited to two positions per institution or must direct crews consisting of three or more inmates.
Typical Work
Establishes and directs regular equipment inspection, service and maintenance schedules;
Estimates maintenance and accident repair costs for motor pool and other department vehicles;
Plans, lays out, directs and inspects work of crew of automotive mechanics and helpers or crew of residents engaged in repair of automotive, farm and heavy construction equipment;
Performs skilled automotive mechanical work;
Establishes and carries out regular equipment inspection, service and maintenance schedules;
Inspects equipment and diagnoses trouble;
Determines material and personnel requirements;
Keeps records; makes reports;
Orders parts and establishes procedures for operation of parts‑storage unit;
Enforces safety rules and regulations;
Performs other work as required.
Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to: supervise crew of automotive mechanics or inmates; estimate materials and personnel needed to complete job.
Legal Requirement(s)
Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.
Desirable Qualifications
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
