Definition
Supervise nursing personnel in a hospital nursing unit on a twenty-four hour basis. Act as a consultant for Nurse Coordinator 1 and act as a relief Administrative Supervisor in his/her absence.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is a nursing management level class. Incumbents act as consultants to Nurse Coordinator 1; conduct research activities and complete reports; teach classes in nursing procedures and techniques; and act in relief capacity for the Administrative Supervisor.
Typical Work
Able to perform all the duties of the Nurse Coordinator 1;
Act as a consultant to Nurse Coordinator 1 in helping them organize and manage a nursing unit;
In the absence of a Nurse Coordinator 1, assume responsibility for another unit. Work with the Nurse Practitioner 3 on the unit to help maintain the working of the unit;
Conduct organization research projects and help introduce ideas to other units, e.g., experiments with walking rounds, or problem-oriented charting, or 4/40 work week;
Supervise three or more units in the absence of the Administrative Supervisor such as days off or vacation;
Perform related duties as required.
Legal Requirement(s)
Current Washington State license to practice as a registered nurse

Desirable Qualifications
- B.S. Degree in Nursing. Master's Degree highly desirable.
- Four years experience in nursing including one year's experience as a Nurse Coordinator I or Team Leader.
- Qualified for faculty appointment in the School of Nursing.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Examination Requirements:
- A job element examination (including written, E & T and oral components) scored on the basis of job related experience, training, skill, ability and other elements which are established through job analysis.
