Definition

Performs entrance-level professional architectural work.

Typical Work

Prepares final and working drawings and writes specifications for minor buildings, alteration work, and special equipment;

Secures information in field for preparation of sketches for alterations or additions to existing buildings;

Compiles bills of materials, including requisition drawings;

Inspects buildings during construction and after completion for compliance with working drawings, specifications, contracts and codes;

Performs other work as required.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of: theory, principles, and practices of architectural design; architectural drafting procedures and equipment; making building plans, elevations, sections, and perspectives; lumber, concrete, hardware, and other building materials; architectural and engineering mathematics; fire and building codes.

Ability to: sketch, render, and draft plans for buildings and other structures with pencil, pen and ink, and colors; use architectural standards and engineering handbooks; understand and interpret needs of building users such as physicians, therapists, and business management personnel; understand and utilize effectively relationships between building occupancy, aesthetics, orientation to view and sun, and other buildings; inspect buildings in plan stage, under construction, and after completion for defects of safety or usage and adapt effective corrective course of action.

Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.

Desirable Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree involving major study in architecture or architectural engineering

Five years of experience in office of licensed or registered architect or registered professional engineer may be substituted for education.
