Definition
In a high volume, large format (over 22”) offset print shop, sets up, maintains, repairs and operates specialized high speed envelope manufacturing equipment that converts die-cut blanks or paper rolls into customer envelopes. Operates envelope manufacturing equipment in the creation of various sized envelopes.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Positions in this class are found within a high volume, offset print shop characterized by specialized high speed equipment capable of producing envelopes of various sizes and various specifications, such as window placement. Production of 20 thousand or more envelopes an hour is usual.
Positions in this class function at the fully qualified journey level and are responsible for adjustment and calibrations of feeding, folding, gumming, sealing, banding, and cutting mechanisms to job specifications; repair and maintenance of equipment; and completion of timely production records and equipment logs.
Typical Work
Sets up, operates and maintains envelope manufacturing equipment in the production of high quality envelopes;
Makes finishing adjustments to running equipment, maintaining acceptable product tolerances;
Maintains acceptable machine run speeds and production average;
Visually inspects product for defective printing areas or manufacturing defects;
Establishes piece counts, pallet batch counts, and product identification;
Performs routine preventative maintenance;
Performs skilled repairs when needed;
Interprets job tickets and facilitates quality manufacturing;
Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: materials, methods, production processes, and manufacturing equipment used in the production of finished envelopes.
Ability to: interpret and follow oral and written instructions; operate the specific tools and equipment used in the area of expertise, including related tools and equipment; meet deadlines and production requirements and perform envelope production activities quickly and accurately without regular direction.
Legal Requirement(s)
Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.
Desirable Qualifications
High school graduation or equivalent
AND
Four years of experience with envelope manufacturing/adjusting equipment.
