Distinguishing Characteristics
Typical Work
Conducts reconnaissance of potential park sites for possible acquisition according to agency or IAC criteria;
Drafts plans for individual facilities within present park facilities;
Develops sign plans for parks;
Obtains mapping and other planning information from various governmental agencies and reference sources;
Writes individual reports on problems that will affect the acquisition or situation of property;
Collects data to be included in environmental impact statements;
Submits reports and maps to various governmental agencies, including the Corps of Engineers, for permit issuance;
Prepares preliminary cost estimates for new parks using published guidelines;
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: theory, principles and practices of park planning; interrelationship of structural and topographic elements, soils, ground water, vegetation, and human, social and recreational needs, botany, horticulture, engineering and recreation; architectural and engineering standards; sketching, rendering and drafting technique and instruments; building, planting and heavy construction methods.
Legal Requirement(s)
Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.
Desirable Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree involving major study in park planning, park administration, landscape architecture, land planning, engineering or other major which included course work in park planning, park administration or related field.
