Definition
Distinguishing Characteristics
Typical Work
Participates in studies of system characteristics and performance such as speeds, volume, accidents, vehicle types, weights, occupancy origins and destinations and other similar data;
Prepares, refines, and maintains summaries of system data pertaining to mileage, classification geometrics and other similar factors;
Collects, summarizes, and refines data relating to social, economic and environmental factors relating to transportation systems;
Performs other work as required.
Legal Requirement(s)
Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.
Desirable Qualifications
One year of experience as Transportation Planning Technician 1 or equivalent classification.
OR
An Associate degree in civil engineering technology, surveying, drafting, computer science or other closely related field, or equivalent vocational technical program consisting of at least 1200 instructional hours in the above fields.
Experience performing basic technical engineering or transportation data collection work equivalent to a Transportation Planning Technician 1 will substitute year for year for education.
NOTE: Employees shall be advanced to Transportation Planning Technician 2 after completing one year of satisfactory service as a Transportation Planning Technician 1 and passing a qualifying examination.
NOTE: A valid driver's license may be required.
