Supervises Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technicians, performs skilled HVAC work, and monitors the daily activities of a designated multi-locational HVAC unit. 

Plans, organizes, and directs work of HVAC Technicians engaged in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing, heating, water, cooling, refrigeration, sewer and fire suppression systems, steam distribution systems, commercial air-conditioning (environmental) equipment; air handling units; and pneumatic/electronic/electrical or mechanical control systems; 

Performs skilled HVAC work; 

Consults with appropriate resources to plan, estimate, and execute projects; requisitions materials and equipment; 

Plans, organizes, and directs training for assigned personnel; 

Prepares reports and analyzes data for budget information; 

Determines personnel requirements, schedules daily and future work plans, conducts evaluations and provides leadership for shop programs and personnel; 

Performs other work as required. 

Knowledge of:  standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment of the HVAC trades; operation and theory of steam generation equipment, fluid and gas systems; laws, rules or regulations that pertain to pressure vessels. 

Ability to:  read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans and sketches; supervise personnel; utilize personal computers.

Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.

Journey-level standing as refrigeration mechanic or steamfitter as attested by: 

            a.         Completion of recognized apprenticeship in refrigeration or steamfitter trades and two years of journey-level experience as an HVAC Technician. 

OR 

            b.         Full journey-level status in Plumbers and Pipefitters Union and two years of journey-level experience as an HVAC Technician. 

                                    OR                                   

            c.         Six years of applicable experience in the performing work in refrigeration or steamfitter trade or a combination of the two.  Vocational or trade school training as a steamfitter or refrigeration mechanic will substitute, year for year, for work experience up to a maximum of two years.  

OR 

            d.         Completion of a recognized program for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, and two years of journey-level experience as an HVAC Technician.
