Performs building and construction trades work of graduated complexity in a training capacity in order to achieve journey level status in the Construction and Maintenance Project Specialist 1 classification.  The Construction and Maintenance Project Specialist 1 is an apprenticeship job that has been approved by the Washington Apprenticeship and Training Council.

Positions in this class are distinguished by assignment as an apprentice trainee for the journey class receiving on-the-job and academic training to achieve journey status.

Receives training and assists in the construction and repair of buildings, other structures, roads, pathways, walks, fences, and related facilities in a state park or other park facility; 

Learns and assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing, electrical, steam, heating, domestic and irrigation water pump systems, sewage, and other systems and equipment; 

Learns and assists in the inspection of buildings, grounds equipment and fixtures to determine the need for maintenance or repair; 

Learns to operate and maintain construction tools and equipment; learns to operate and maintain Class A and B equipment in the maintenance of all types of park facilities; welds, utilizing both arc and gas welders; 

Receives training and conducts work on marine docks, floats, piers, and related facilities;  

Receives training in preparing reports, scheduling maintenance, and scheduling equipment; receives training and assists in developing projects including determining materials, equipment, and manpower needs; 

Performs other related work as required.

Ability to:  perform math computations, read and write, communicate with others, understand and carry out instructions; follow health and safety guidelines; work in confined spaces, and/or on ladders and roofs; learn to operate and repair tools and equipment; learn to construct, repair, and remodel buildings; learn to maintain and repair water systems; perform heavy manual labor and work outside in all types of weather.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.

Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a High School Diploma or GED.
