Definition
Responsible for the supervision, scheduling, operation, maintenance and repair of the Keller Ferry, ferry slips, landings, and out buildings used for housing personnel, storage, and repair facilities.
Typical Work
Devises and maintains ferry schedules and sees that they are properly posted; assigns ferry personnel to shifts so as to equalize their workload and days off;
Makes periodic inspections of the Keller Ferry and oversees its servicing and maintenance, including such items as seals, gaskets, fuel lines, alternators, pumps, and drive belts, heat exchangers, strainers, clutches, tachometer angle adaptors, batteries, gear boxes, cables, quadrants, sheaves, rudder and propeller shafts, fenders, wheel and hand rails, navigational aids and lifesaving and fire extinguishing equipment;
Moves ferry landings when the lake level changes more than six inches; changes mooring lines to new anchors when the lake level changes five feet;
Inspects ferry landings pontoons for condition and proper buoyancy and directs and participates in making needed repairs and adjustments;
Requisitions and accounts for fuel, lubricants, janitorial supplies, welding equipment and repair material, engine parts, paints, lumber, bolts, spikes and related items;
Prepares and submits records of personnel and equipment use time, gas and oil reports, inventories and related items;
Is responsible for the care and maintenance of the ferry landings, five personnel housing units, outbuildings, repair shop, car shed and the water and sewer systems;
Works a regular shift as ferry operator when needed;
Arranges for the transportation of the ferry when major overhaul repairs are necessary;
Performs other work as required.

Desirable Qualifications
A valid U.S. Coast Guard license for Master of inland steam or motor vessels of not more than 100 gross tons valid on
AND
One year of experience as the operator of a ferry carrying vehicles, passengers, and cargo.
