LAW ENFORCEMENT EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN LEAD
Definition
In the Washington State Patrol, assists supervisor with training, assigning, scheduling, and reviewing work of Law Enforcement Equipment Technicians 1 and 2. Performs work in the layout, construction, and installation of radio communications, electronic, and safety equipment. Provides quality control, monitors production and ensures deadlines are met.
Typical Work
Provides guidance and necessary training in technical areas to others;
Provides assistance to supervisor and keeps supervisor informed of vehicle installation progress;
Provides quality control and monitors production, ensuring that deadlines are met;
Ensures vehicle, equipment, and parts databases are up-to-date and ensures assemblies and parts are adequately stocked for vehicle installations;
Performs layout, design, interface, and installation of assemblies and subassemblies used in the vehicle installation process;
Leads and performs installation and removal of two way radio systems, sirens, citizen band, other communications, electronics and safety equipment used in Washington State Patrol vehicles and vehicles utilized by other state agencies including aircraft and boats;
Leeds and performs construction and modification of chassis, control panels, cabinets, and mounting devices installed in above-mentioned equipment;
Keeps work records; prepares technical evaluation reports;
Performs other work as required.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: advanced installation techniques and theory of operation of radio transmitting and receiving equipment including principles and practices of electronics, electricity, electrical measurements and mathematics; safety precautions; and manual and automated record keeping.
Ability to: train and teach other personnel; organize and establish priorities; make electrical, electronic and mechanical drawings; must communicate effectively in verbal and written form; follow written and oral instructions; instruct staff and maintain effective working relationships while encouraging maintenance of production standards.

Desirable Qualifications
Three years of experience as a Law Enforcement Equipment Technician 2. A valid driver’s license is required.
