Definition

Supervises several laboratory personnel and aerial photographers in an aerial photo section and occasionally participates in all phases of modern aerial photo laboratory processing.

Typical Work

Supervises subordinates engaged in aerial photo specialties such as aerial photo rectification and making glass diapositive plates for photogrammetric mapping work; 

Develops, coordinates and directs a system for scheduling priorities and reporting the status of all photographic projects; 

Develops aerial photo missions with administrative and supervisory personnel to include estimating costs and manpower requirements; 

Provides technical guidance and assistance to districts or other parties regarding aerial photographic matters; 

Assists in preparing plans, specifications and estimates for aircraft rental contracts, film processing and specialized photographic services; 

Assigns, trains and evaluates subordinate personnel; 

Prepares budget for Aerial Photo Section which includes all photography equipment; 

Participates in any or all phases of aerial photo laboratory processing work; 

May perform as photographer using an aerial mapping camera, small format cameras, or metric‑terrestrial equipment on aerial or ground photography projects on an as needed basis; 

Performs other work as required.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:  field of photography with emphasis on advanced aerial photographic techniques, supplies and equipment; reproduction services; basic supervisory principles and procedures; basic aerial photo‑lab techniques; capabilities of photogrammetric instruments. 

Ability to: supervise others; analyze quality of finished products; coordinate schedules; maintain good public relations; prepare accurate, concise reports; issue clear directions, orally and in writing; apply principles of management.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Desirable Qualifications

Three years of professional experience processing aerial roll film, including developing and printing.

OR

Three years of experience as an Photographic Technician 2, Aerial; a Photogrammetrist or Photographer, Aerial.

Equivalent education/experience.
