FOREST CREW SUPERVISOR, CORRECTION FACILITIES
Definition
Directs, plans and evaluates the daily work activities of a correctional facility resident work crew performing forest road maintenance, fire control, and forest management tasks.
Typical Work
Supervises crews in plantation maintenance spraying, seeding, planting, pre-commercial thinning, water hole development, camp maintenance, recreation trail or campsite construction and maintenance;
Supervises crews on road maintenance projects such as culvert replacement, bridge redecking and roadside brush control;
Instructs crews in use of hand tools, axes, picks, shovels, hoes, small power tools, sprayers and power saws, portable pumps, etc;
Teaches elementary woods and forestry procedures, safety measures and first aid; instructs crews in forest fire fighting techniques, tools, equipment, and directs them in suppression of fires;
Keeps track of and evaluates crew members; writes daily evaluations regarding the performance of correctional facility residents;
Maintains and inspects equipment;
Performs other work as required.
Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to: give clear, concise work instructions and reports; maintain effective working relationships while maintaining high standards of safety and reasonable production levels among residents; use sound judgment under fire conditions involving extreme physical hazard; sustain long periods of heavy physical exertion under hazardous conditions; use forest measurement tools.

Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.
Desirable Qualifications
One year and six months of forest crafts experience and six months of lead work experience.
Note: Possession of a valid Washington State driver's license is required.
Note: Applicants will be required to pass a physical examination prior to appointment.
