Independently manages the Department of Natural Resources operations at a correctional facility and functions as a second‑line supervisor over inmate crews performing a variety of natural resource labor management activities.

Plans, organizes, directs and controls the department's work activities of a cooperative corrections camp; leads work planning processes with agency field managers, staff resource managers, and outside local, State and Federal agency personnel; writes work plans; schedules and assigns work, sets performance standards and resolves problems in accomplishing work; 

Coordinates all activities for cooperative relations between DSHS/DOC and DNR such as operating agreements, facilities operations, inmate assignments and problems, interagency relations, etc., peculiar to joint operations of honor camps; 

Directs maintenance, operations, security and recordkeeping of DNR physical facilities including water, sewer, energy systems, and buildings; 

Supervises an assistant manager who supervises crew supervisors of inmate crews in labor intensive natural resource management activities and coordinates project work with field units or other agencies; equips and trains 5‑10, 10-person inmate crews and a project fire kitchen facility to readiness for dispatch to large forest fires or incidents throughout the State; examples of work activities performed by crews are pre‑commercial thinning, tree planting, recreation site and trail construction and maintenance, plantation maintenance, stream clean out, and facilities and grounds care and maintenance; 

Supervises an equipment operations crew and/or equipment repair shop with crafts supervisors and inmate crews; 

Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge of:  natural resource management operations methods, practices and techniques; equipment repair shop management practices; equipment operations practices; management and supervision styles, methods, and techniques. 

Ability to: manage a wide variety of forestry, equipment operations, equipment repair shop and facilities operations; promote and maintain cooperative relations with a wide variety of agencies and units in joint ventures; supervise firsthand second‑line supervisors of inmates.

One year of experience as a Natural Resource Camp Manager 1.

OR 

Two years of experience as a Forester 2 equivalent or higher‑level professional natural resource management class in the Department of Natural Resources. 

OR 

A Bachelor's degree in a natural resource field and three years of professional natural resource management experience of which two years must be as a supervisor.
