RACING OFFICIAL ASSISTANT
Definition
As an assistant, performs various tasks needed to ensure that horse racing is conducted in accordance with state law and the regulations adopted by the Washington Horse Racing Commission.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Under close supervision, typically performs the type of work described below:

Receiving Barn Clerk – Coordinates the movement of horses to and from the receiving barn before and after each race. Ensures that “claimed” horses are properly transferred. Performs necessary upkeep to receiving barn area. Identifies and disseminates information to stakeholders on the types of horseshoes worn by racehorses.
- Assistant Clerk of Scales – Performs various support duties assigned to them by the Clerk of Scales.
- Assistant Clocker – Performs various support duties assigned to them by the Clocker.
- Assistant Identifier – Performs various support duties assigned to them by the Identifier.

Desirable Qualifications
High school education or GED and two years of customer service experience;
OR
Two years of experience in the horse racing industry.
Note: Some positions in this class will require the incumbent to type at a net speed of 40 words per minute.
