Definition
Performs evaluative work including the computing, comparing and reporting of data in support of reports, studies, surveys and forecasts. Prepares narrative reports to accompany data.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This level is differentiated from lower levels in that incumbents are required to evaluate the data in completed statistical reports, graphs, tables and charts according to predetermined guidelines in order to prepare summarized reports. Incumbents are given the scope or intent of the assignment, but they are expected to determine the method to complete it.
Typical Work
Compiles and computes production statistics;
Reviews data for completeness and accuracy; refers questionable data or narrative to originator for clarification;
Uses computer to summarize data, compile and compute data, compose reports, etc.;
Composes narrative reports that include identification and evaluation of problems and resolutions;
Reviews and/or assists in the revision of existing office forms to accommodate changes in office procedures and requirements;
Collects, reviews and classifies data to assist other staff in evaluating and determining a plan for future research development;
May supervise lower level employees doing data gathering and compilation;
May provide information or assistance to employees, the public, community organizations or other governmental agencies concerning a project or study;
Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: basic statistics; techniques for collecting, compiling and evaluating data; office practices and procedures; office equipment; basic English and report writing; chart and graph preparation; principles of supervision.
Ability to: operate office equipment such as adding machines, typewriters, calculators and personal computers; apply basic research techniques; select data to meet or answer a specific need or question; analyze data to determine common content and determine which variable might best apply; analyze data and summarize findings; work with others in developing programs and plans; supervise other employees.

Desirable Qualifications
High school graduation or G.E.D. and two years of experience as a Data Compiler 2 or equivalent.
OR
A Bachelor's degree including completion of at least one college level course in each of the following subjects: Statistics, Mathematics, and English Composition.
