COLLEGE CAREER GRADUATE - COMPUTER SCIENCE IT
Definition
As a college or university graduate of an accredited four-year institution, trains for and performs beginning professional computer and information technology assignments.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Incumbents in this class have a Bachelor's degree in computer science or a closely related field preparing one for a career in the information technology field.
This entry-level position is intended to be used on an in-training basis. Incumbents normally advance to the next higher level class in their technological field following completion of an approved in-training plan of 6-24 months in duration.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.
Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.
Desirable Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree involving major study in information technology (computer science, telecommunications, programming, operating systems, database management, etc.) or another closely related field preparing one for this career area such as mathematics, economics, statistics, or a business program all of which must include at least 9 semester or 15 quarter credits in information technology classes (such as programming, database design, networking, telecommunications and system administration).
College or university students, including state employees, who are enrolled and scheduled to complete their degree requirements within 9 months may apply. The degree must be achieved, however, prior to appointment.
Note: Selective certification may be requested and applied to designated disciplines and/or internship/fellowship/work-study programs.
