TAX SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE 2
Definition
At a tax collecting office, contacts delinquent taxpayers by telephone to determine amount of tax liability and effect collections; or serves as the lead worker in an office with two or more Tax Service Representative positions.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Telephone collection positions are allocated based upon a majority of the assignments involving the use of professional telephone, correspondence, or skip tracing techniques to contact delinquent taxpayers, recommend alternatives and effect payment of delinquent taxes; lead worker positions provide routine guidance to one or more employees in positions at the Tax Service Representative 1 level.
Typical Work
Notifies delinquent taxpayers of law requirements as to tax reporting and payments, as well as of the consequences of failing to report their tax liabilities and effect payment as prescribed by existing laws;
Follows up on delinquent taxpayers contacted over the telephone, to ensure that proper tax reporting and payment has been effected after initial contacts;
Submits the names of delinquent taxpayers who fail to comply with existing laws, to compliance personnel;
On a limited basis, or as needed, performs duties normally assigned to Tax Service Representatives 1;
In offices other than agency's headquarters, acts as the lead worker over other Tax Service Representatives;
Performs other work as required.

Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: basic tax laws, rules of the Revenue Act of Employment Security Act, policy and laws governing departmental program.
Ability to: answer general questions relating to basic tax laws; communicate effectively with the public, orally and in writing; maintain responsibility for a variety of activities without regular direction; type at occupational levels of speed and accuracy; maintain courteous attitude toward public and fellow employees.

Desirable Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree involving major study in business administration, accounting, public administration, police science, law or closely allied field.
OR
One year of experience as a Tax Service Representative.
OR
Any four year combination of above mentioned college course work and experience as a Tax Service Representative.
NOTE: Experience in the field of personal finance, law enforcement, adjustment of claims, collection of civil debts or other directly related field may be substituted, year for year, for the education requirement above mentioned.
