Definition
Performs entry level professional unemployment insurance (UI) tax work by participating in providing program administration and/or direct services.
Typical Work
Secures employer tax/wage reports and/or payments using professional techniques;
Reviews routine tax/wage reports to determine completeness and accuracy;
Calculates and prepares tax/wage reports which may include estimated and arbitrary reports;
Verifies, analyzes and balances the total wages on wage system to the total wages on the tax report by auditing and analyzing the out-of-balance report;
Assists in determining employer liability and verifying business activity descriptions for tax rate purpose;
Registers new businesses, utilizing Unified Business Identifier mainframe computer system and Employment Security TAXIS system;
Responds to employers' routine inquiries and interviews taxpayers or their representatives regarding all aspects of the UI tax programs;
Assists in researching claimants' eligibility, benefit claim history and evaluating routine requests for relief of benefit charges;
Reviews tax and wage screens to provide accurate and detailed information for the Internal Revenue Service and other state agencies when requested;
Analyzes and resolves blocked unemployment insurance claims;
Assists in issuing and serving various legal documents which may include Subpoenas, Notice of Assessments, Liens and Warrants;
Prepares routine accounting adjustments on tax/wage reports when discrepancies are found;
Basic review and online update of the employer status file;
Reviews routine tax/wage reports to determine completeness and accuracy;
Reviews, processes and balances batches of tax reports and prepares for entry into the TAXIS system;
Performs routine reports and drafts correspondence;
Examines, verifies and reconciles output payment reports from U.S. Bank (Lock Box) to quarterly reports submitted;
Reviews all payments received in branch mail room and drafts correspondence to employers to return improperly executed payments;
Performs other duties as required.

Desirable Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree involving major study in business administration or closely related field which includes a minimum of 6 semester hours or 9 quarter hours of college-level accounting.
Two years of bookkeeping or auditing experience and 6 semester hours or 9 quarter hours of college-level accounting.
Two years of experience performing tax-related duties in a class at the level of Data Entry Operator 2 or above or one year of experience as a Fiscal Technician - Accounting, Payroll and 6 semester hours or 9 quarter hours of college-level accounting.
Note: Only accounting courses transferable to a Washington State degree granting institution will be accepted as equivalent college-level accounting.
OR
