BENEFITS MARKETING REPRESENTATIVE
Definition
Typical Work
Consults with individual employees using lap-top computer generated projections of investment growth and net salary effects of participation in deferred compensation program; explains potential federal tax savings available through participation in programs offered through the agency;
Establishes and maintains effective network of employee volunteers to help promote agency programs in region; establishes contact with and familiarizes personnel and payroll office employees in region with agency programs;
Makes suggestions, based upon field experience, for brochures, articles, etc., used in promotion of agency programs;
Invites political subdivisions in assigned region to participate in Deferred Compensation program;
Keeps abreast of changes in laws regarding retirement and employee benefit programs and in the areas of finance and the economy; follows the performance of investment options offered by the agency;
Makes recommendations to Marketing Coordinator (Manager), based upon feedback from employees, regarding possible enhancement of programs;
Maintains computer based records of agency contacts and presentations, and prepares and submits reports showing field activity;
Writes draft articles for quarterly report and benefits newsletters;
Assists in market research projects;
Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to: differentiate between various investment media such as: banks, savings and loans, brokerage firms, insurance companies, etc.; computer skills in either DOS or Apple environment, including word processing, spreadsheet and data base programs; plan, organize, and present ideas effectively in writing and orally; maintain effective interpersonal relationships with various agencies, management, and volunteers; speak to large groups of people.
Legal Requirement(s)
Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.
Desirable Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience selling financial products and services such as securities, mutual funds, IRAs, annuities and certificates of deposits
Additional qualifying experience will substitute, year for year, for the Bachelor's degree.
A Master's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Finance or closely allied field will substitute for one year of sales experience.
OR
In the Health Care Authority:
A Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience processing insurance claims, performing policy service work or marketing in the health insurance industry
OR
Two years as a Benefits Specialist 2 in the Health Care Authority
Additional qualifying experience will substitute, year for year, for the Bachelor's degree.
