Definition
Positions have management responsibility for visitor services and tour programs. Responsibilities include planning and directing visitor services and tour programs; managing and coordinating the promotion and utilization of facilities and resources with governmental agencies and community organizations; and managing administrative functions such as: recruiting, hiring, training, supervising and evaluating staff; developing policies and procedures; and developing/managing the operating budget.
Typical Work
Manages administrative functions including recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating staff; determines alternative staffing models as appropriate; develops, promotes, and manages operating budget;
Plans and directs activities including coordinating daily public tours, organizing special group tours, coordinating VIP tours, providing weekend visitor tours, developing and maintaining self-guided tour series; and coordinating activities with other visitor attractions;
Plans and directs activities such as developing a comprehensive information network, monitoring and updating changes in information, collecting and distributing literature and materials, developing and maintaining resource library, and developing cooperative relations with local and state resources;
Develops and implements a comprehensive, ongoing plan to market and promote tour and visitor services as a tourist attraction and educational experience; develops creative and innovative methods to expand and improve services;
Develops a cooperative working relationship with local and statewide information centers, visitor and convention bureaus, local community service organizations, and other tourist resources;
Develops, maintains and distributes literature and materials; develops and implements special projects and programs designed to compliment historical, cultural, and educational heritage;
Coordinates public use of facilities including development of policies and procedures for use of facilities, promoting the use of facilities, scheduling use, supervising and monitoring use, assisting users as required, and identifying and reporting safety and maintenance concerns.

Desirable Qualifications
Positions typically require a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Social Sciences, Communications or related field.
AND
Two years of experience supervising or managing a tour or volunteer program; or equivalent education/experience.
