Definition
Lead others; conduct institution-wide fiscal and administrative evaluations and reviews of grant and contract proposals; negotiate resulting awards.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Regularly assign, instruct and check the work of others. Under general direction, perform institution-wide functions relating to the review, negotiation, and administration of grant and contract proposals and awards, such as fiscal review of budgets, negotiation of indirect costs, and review of publications, indemnification and patent clauses.
Typical Work
Conduct fiscal and administrative reviews of proposals requiring consultation with principal investigators and funding agencies; prepare written summaries for institution officials;
With delegated authority, review and approve budgetary actions facilitating grant and contract awards, and concur on institution-wide requests to funding agencies;
Approve new account authorizations for use by institution administration in establishing project accounts or amending existing accounts;
Coordinate and perform proposal/award analysis of multi-investigator and multi-subaccount programs which may include cost sharing from multiple sources;
Perform complex analysis, including historical synopsis of on-going programs with multi-investigators and multi-subaccounts for the proper accounting of expenditures;
Respond to funding agency requests for the proper administration and accounting of project budgets over a lengthy period of time which includes budget periods within project periods;
Analyze and respond to questions regarding sponsor intent and University compliance with sponsor fiscal and/or administrative requirements;
Provide interpretation of funding agency and institutional regulations and policies to faculty, staff and interested parties;
Represent the institution on site visits and/or during formal conferences with funding agency representatives;
Prepare subcontracts with other institutions including cost analysis, negotiation, selection of proper terms and coordination of close-out actions;
Compose correspondence and prepare reports as necessary;
Perform the duties of a Grant and Contract Coordinator;
Perform related duties as required.

Desirable Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree in business administration or a related field
AND
One year experience as a Grant and Contract Coordinator or equivalent
Equivalent education/experience.
