Class Series Concept
This is a professional level series responsible for researching and designing systems and equipment for use in the workplace. Principal duties include performing laboratory and field research and evaluating ergonomic risk factors.
Definition
Positions at this level work under a higher-level Ergonomist and primarily perform field and laboratory work. This includes collecting and analyzing statistical data involving insurance claims and investigating suspected ergonomic problems in industry to determine actual and potential ergonomic effects.
Typical Work
Assists in an agency or department ergonomics program;
Performs routine office ergonomics assessments and modifications using approved guidelines and training;
Performs routine non-office assessments and modifications after receiving appropriate training and demonstrated competency;
Recognizes when advanced level of expertise is required and requests such expertise;
Works with affected employees and supervisor to document problems identified and solutions implemented. Obtains and documents feedback from supervisor and employees for any job modifications 2-4 weeks post implementation;
Administers and evaluates postural discomfort surveys and ergonomic checklists before and after intervention.

Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.
Desirable Qualifications
Associate degree in any field, or certificate program completed in area relevant to ergonomics or health and safety, and attendance at minimum of 40 hours of education in ergonomics in previous two years, and 1 year experience in workplace ergonomics activities, or Certification in ergonomics at the assistant or technician level from a recognized professional society (BCPE, ASSE, AIHA, APTA, etc).
