Definition

This is the highest level in the series responsible for planning, organizing, conducting, and evaluating ergonomic assessments and research studies.  This level may supervise lower level Ergonomists, research staff or students.

Typical Work

Manage worksite ergonomics program;

Conduct routine ergonomic analyses requiring judgment;

With consultation from ergonomist, develop exposure assessment methods applicable to specific worksite;

Supervise lower level ergonomists in checklist assessments, simple interventions and follow-up;

Maintain log of problems and solutions;

Seek opportunities to expand ergonomic knowledge base. Identify training materials for worksite;

Provide ergonomics awareness education for worksite;

Develop worksite specific policies regarding ergonomics activities.

Legal Requirement(s)

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position. 

Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.

Desirable Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, occupational safety and health or related field, 1 years’ experience in workplace ergonomics activities, and CEA or equivalent certification, or

Associate degree in engineering, health or safety field, attendance at minimum of 80 hours continuing education courses in ergonomics in previous two years and 3 years’ experience in workplace ergonomics activities, or

Three years’ experience as an Ergonomist 3 or equivalent.

Certification from recognized professional society at technician or above level (BCPE, ASSE, AIHA, APTA, etc.).
