Class Series Concept

Performs fiscally-related tasks using a manual and/or computerized system which involves receiving, distributing, transferring, and accounting for funds such as distribution of monies owed or advanced; receipt of payments by cash, checks or credit cards; and maintenance of internal and external cash flow records.

Definition

Receives and disburses funds; records monetary transactions; issues receipts, balances records, transfers funds; prepares cash receipts and dispositions reports.

Distinguishing Characteristics

First-level class of series. Under direct supervision, uses established procedures to perform routine cashiering work involving the receipt of funds and the recording of transactions.

Typical Work

Receives cash, checks, and/or credit card payments for various transactions;

Issues computerized or manual receipts for payments received by cash, checks or credit card;

Maintains records of funds received, distributed, and transferred;

Maintains and/or enforces security procedures to ensure safety of funds;

Balances records at the end of the work day;

Prepares reports of cash receipts and dispositions reports;

Operates calculator, adding machine, cash register, computer and typewriter;

Assists customers by answering inquiries and providing information;

Completes deposit slips, totals cash, prepares cash bank deposits, and makes bank deposits;

Performs clerical duties such as preparing mail, answering telephones, filing, and typing reports;

Operates coin counter, coin wrapper, or bill counter;

Computes fees and inputs data to cash-related computer systems;

Performs related duties as required.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of: Routine cashiering and bookkeeping procedures involving receipt of funds and recording of transactions.

Ability to: Receive cash, checks and/or credit card payments; make change and issue computerized or manual receipts; maintain records of funds received, distributed, and transferred; balance records; operate calculator, adding machine, cash register, computer and typewriter.

Desirable Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent

AND

Six months of fiscally-related experience such as bank teller or retail salesclerk

OR

Equivalent education/experience.
