Manage the overall operation of a campus bookstore. Classification level shall be based primarily upon the following:

Distinguishing Characteristics
Under general direction of an administrative supervisor who is removed from day-to-day routine bookstore activities, direct the operation of a campus bookstore. Positions in this class have final responsibility for meeting profit margin objectives, and the inventory and security requirements of a campus bookstore.
Bookstore Manager C may manage the operation of campus satellite bookstores in addition to the main campus bookstore.

Typical Work
Establish, maintain and administer policies, procedures and methods used in ordering, receiving, storing, returning, issuing and accounting for supplies, materials, books, and equipment in retail operations;
Prepare and/or assist supervisor in preparation of annual bookstore budget; design, implement and maintain cash flow and inventory accounting systems, prepare and submit regular financial statements and/or information to central fiscal office and maintain profit objectives;
With delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of applicants, train new employees, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary action;
Interview vendor agents and review catalogues for new merchandise; direct ordering to meet anticipated needs;
Confer with college faculty, develop text book order requirements, project retail requirements and initiate inventory orders;
Plan and initiate sales promotions and merchandising;
Make presentations to student and/or faculty committees to enhance public relations and further the effectiveness of bookstore operations;
Perform related duties as required.

Desirable Qualifications
"C" Level - High school diploma or GED certificate AND five years of retail experience involving public contact, merchandising, ordering, inventory control or equivalent, including two years at a supervisory or management level. One year of full-time college level course work with major study in retail merchandising, business, accounting, or marketing may be substituted for one year of required work experience. College level course work may not be substituted for required supervisory experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
