Lead bookstore and/or service personnel in the ordering, receiving, sales, inventory, cash control, and/or customer service functions for a retail and/or service operation.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Under general direction, lead assigned bookstore and/or service personnel in the retail financial record keeping, and cash control duties of a retail and/or service operation. Serve as an assistant to a Bookstore Manager or service facility manager.
Typical Work
Regularly assigns, instructs and checks the work of retail clerks, check stand operators, temporary staff and/or others;
Directs the ordering of bookstore and/or service supplies such as text books, binders, writing instruments, art and engineering supplies, and stationery items; coordinates returns to publishers and suppliers and sell back over supply with minimal supervision;
Directs receiving, checking, pricing and stocking of retail goods and supplies;
Coordinates displays, store arrangements with seasonal changes, special sales and new merchandise;
Interviews vendor agents from selected manufacturers and wholesalers and plans inventory levels to meet anticipated needs; reviews catalogues for new goods;
Buys back books from students, re-price, and shelve;
Performs the duties of a Retail Clerk 2;
May make bank deposits;
May confer with college faculty; develop order requirements;
Perform related duties as required.

Desirable Qualifications
High school diploma or GED certificate
AND
One year of experience in retail selling, cash register operation, general clerical work and/or financial record keeping.
Six months of additional qualifying experience may be substituted for education.
