Class Series Concept
Definition
Performs entry-level professional corrections specialist work and is responsible for developing, establishing, coordinating and/or facilitating correctional programs or activities within a facility, such as volunteer services, family friendly and/or community resource programs.
OR
Within a stand-alone minimum security facility, administers a roster management program under the direction of a Lieutenant or higher authority.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Typical Work
Plans, organizes, directs and coordinates day-to-day operations of grant-funded special programs or other correctional programs;
Conducts community meetings with incarcerated individuals and staff;
Establishes and maintains community partnerships;
Recruits and provides oversight of volunteers;
Facilitates and plans Family Advisory Council meetings;
Be a liaison for families;
Implements family friendly events;
Implements and maintains a comprehensive program for volunteers in accordance with legislative requirements and agency policies and procedures;
Implements volunteer training and orientation plans;
Serves as staff advisor for cultural programs;
Completes transition plans for incarcerated individuals;
Develops the "work" schedule (i.e. days off, hours of work, etc.), within a minimum facility for all custody positions, to ensure all mandatory posts are covered; monitors the cost effective use of assigned staff, controls use of overtime and tracks post vacancies and extra post assignments;
May serve as a lead worker;
Performs other duties as required.
