Class Series Concept

Definition

Performs journey-level work developing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating various correctional programs as assigned. Plans, organizes and coordinates all aspects of facility-wide correctional programs or activities, such as children of incarcerated parent programming and Cognitive Behavioral Interventions. Prepares comprehensive reports and makes recommendations for management, identifies and projects trends and monitors program expenditures for adherence to budgeted allocations.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Positions at this level work under general direction and have facility-wide correctional program responsibilities. Positions at this level perform professional level duties related to correctional programs in areas such as intensive management, administrative segregation, grievance coordination, security, facility classification and evidence based program delivery. This level is distinguished from the Corrections Specialist 1 and Corrections Specialist 3 by the absence of roster management responsibilities.

Typical Work

Interprets and explains applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures and WACs and RCWs; 

Establishes and maintains community partnerships; 

Develops, implements, monitors and tests facility staff accountability processes;   

Establishes, conducts and documents random checks for accountability;   

Makes presentations to corrections personnel and external stakeholders; 

Provides recommendations and proposals regarding allocation of Offender Betterment Funds to management; 

Locates and creates partnerships with private and public agencies; 

Facilitates cognitive behavior intervention group programming; 

Monitors and maintains staff safety and facility security procedures; 

Coordinates staging and transfer of incarcerated individuals or those under DOC supervision; 

Develops offender programs; 

Performs other related work as required; 

May lead lower level staff.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position. 

Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.

Desirable Qualifications

Bachelor's degree;

AND 

Three years of professional experience in adult or juvenile corrections, social services or closely related field. 

Note: Additional qualifying experience will substitute, year for year, for up to two years of the desired education. A Master's degree will substitute for one year of experience.
