Operate, monitor, and maintain a radio or television broadcast transmitter, video-tape unit, master control panel; or studio production equipment for radio and/or television.

Positions in this class perform with minimum supervision, fully-qualified technical level duties relating to television or radio facilities and/or broadcast/distribution systems in areas of maintenance, production, operation, and programming. Work must conform to Federal Communications Commission regulations and applicable State and local communication laws for all areas including a remote broadcast facility.

Operates and maintains video-tape recorders; sets levels, optimizes head drivers, readjusts controls, replaces and orders parts as needed;

Records and plays back network programs on video-tape recorders; makes tape duplicates; evaluates, repairs, and screens all incoming new and used tele-course tapes;

Maintains television equipment and systems including quality evaluation, alignment, and repairing of the following studio equipment: television studio cameras, video and audio control units, monitor and switching systems, television/video-tape machines in black and white and color, audio-tape machines, microphone pickup devices, broadcast transmitter unit, etc.;

Maintains and operates a television or radio broadcast transmitter and all supporting equipment including: turning off and on equipment, making adjustments for transmission and the monitor and control outgoing signals;

May make tests and check equipment to ensure proper operation of broadcast transmission systems in compliance with rules and regulations of the Federal Communications Commission; maintain FCC log;

Performs related duties as required.

Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.

Two years of full-time experience/training in radio or television technician work. First class Federal Communications Commission radio-telephone operator's license may be required.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
