Definition

Supervise audio-visual staff and operational functions.

Distinguishing Characteristics

With delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of applicants, conduct training, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary action. 

Within a media services laboratory or distribution center, supervise Media Assistants, Media Laboratory Coordinators, and/or others.

Typical Work

Supervises media services staff and/or others performing audio-visual preview, booking, dispatching, and shipping activities; assures copyright guidelines are followed; 

Plans and coordinates audio-visual operations and the scheduling of staff and equipment to meet service requests; 

Reviews equipment and staffing needs and recommends changes to improve services; 

Provides technical advice and direction to students, staff and faculty in the effective use of multi-media materials and equipment; 

Advises administrative personnel regarding audio-visual service needs and capabilities; analyzes equipment and material usage and recommends acquisition to meet service requirements; 

Develops cost estimates for services; develops and controls unit operations budget; 

Responsible for maintenance of equipment location and computerized and/or manual inventory system and security of equipment; 

May coordinate media service requests for satellite television system and equipment for teleconferences, telecourses and other off-air transmissions and recordings; 

Performs the duties of Media Assistant Lead and/or Media Laboratory Coordinator; 

Performs related duties as required.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Desirable Qualifications

High school graduation

AND 

Three years of media operations experience including one year of experience coordinating media operations 

Equivalent education/experience.
