Leads Hospital Central Services Technicians and other staff performing duties associated with an institutional or hospital central services unit.  Decontaminates, sterilizes, assembles and stores instruments, basins, equipment and supplies according to prescribed procedures and techniques.  Assists in the operation of the unit by coordinating and prioritizing the work, ordering, receiving and restocking supplies and linen; and monitoring the proper functioning of equipment.

Under general direction, regularly assigns, instructs and checks the work of others in a central supply unit.  Assists in the operation of the unit.

Schedules staff; coordinates orientation program and trains new staff; 

Prioritizes and assigns work; 

Monitors function of processing equipment; troubleshoots and corrects minor equipment failures such as sterilizer sequencing; initiates requests to vendors for service as needed; 

Assists with implementation of policies and procedures; 

Reassigns staff in order to respond to unusual production needs; 

Conducts and records results of quality assurance monitors; 

Orders, receives, stores and accounts for supplies, linen and minor equipment; 

Solves routine customer service problems and provides technical advice; 

Assists with maintenance and organization of inventory records;

Verifies correct sterilization cycles by checking and signing graphs and printouts; 

Performs the work of Hospital Central Services Technician 2; 

Performs related duties as required.

Completion of a recognized Central Supply Technician course AND two years of technical experience involving sterilization of surgical trays, medical supplies, equipment and instruments in a hospital or institution central medical supply unit 

OR 

High school graduation or equivalent AND three years of experience processing complex trays of surgical instruments and equipment 

OR 

Equivalent education/experience.
